The Andazola family immigrated from Chihuahua, Mexico and eventually settled in Dawson, New Mexico where the men in the family worked in the coal mines.
Jose enlisted in the US Army in 1942. He was one of the many men who landed in French Morocco on November 8, 1943 during 'Operation Torch'. From there the 550 Engineers helped in the liberation of Italy in the Rome-Arno, Sicilian, and Naples-Foggia Campaigns.
The Andazola family left Dawson in 1955 and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
