Dora Mae Smith Carraway
Wilmington StarNews
She was born on July 4, 1928, and was a native of Aurora, N.C.

Dora was preceded in death by her sister, Marquerite, brothers, Mack and Harold and her oldest daughter Diane.
She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Sharon Jones and husband Edwin and granddaughters, Meredith, Lara, Candace Thompson and great-granddaughter Avery, all of Wilmington, NC, as well, as her son-in-law John Hatcher of Raleigh.

Dora had a special love of life, which she readily shared with her family and friends. Her laughter, keen sense of humor and eagerness to reach out and welcome others into her life were only surpassed by her love for her husband of 55 years. She and Bill enjoyed retirement in Blounts Creek, NC where they shared a passion for gardening, fishing and get togethers with neighbors and friends. As their family grew they returned to Wilmington in 1993 to be close to their children and grandchildren. Dora was also an active member of Bayshore Lutheran Church of Reconciliation.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road. Graveside services will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2003.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the many kindnesses and wishes of support from friends and the wonderful staff of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3131 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28403.
