HARDIN - Henry Stieber, Jr., 72, of Hardin, passed away Feb. 4, 2003, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 7, 1930, a son of Henry and Eva Schield Stieber on a farmstead near the present site of the Market place at 24th and King in Billings. He grew up and received his education in Billings. Following his education, he began a farming operation with his father, west of Billings.

Henry married Christina Haman on Dec. 3, 1950, in Billings, and the couple lived in the Billings area until purchasing a farm north of Hardin in 1967.

He raised sugar beets, corn and grain and operated a cattle-feeding business. In 1997, the couple moved to Hardin.

He enjoyed auctions, polkas and polka music, where he associated with his many friends. He most enjoyed collecting and restoring John Deere Tractors. His famous root beer barrels were always a hit with his grandchildren.

Henry was a member of the Christ E & R Church of Hardin, where he served as a Board member for many years. He was also a past Board member of the Two Leggins Water Users Association and a Board member for the Big Horn Low Line Ditch Company.

His parents preceded Henry in death.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Christina of Hardin; his daughter, Marlene (Joe) Burroughs of Hardin; three sons, Mark (Judy), Paul (Shawna) and Stanley (Julie) Stieber of Hardin; his seven grandchildren, 2nd LT. Cody Burroughs of the USAF, Amy and Lindsey Burroughs, Colton, Christian, Bailey and Deanna Stieber; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the E & R Church of Hardin. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
