I did not know my Great-Grandfather Henry, what I do know of him I know from my Grandmother & Father. Henry loved his kids & grandkids more then anything. He & his wife Emma moved to California from North Dakota as they could not stand to be without their daughters who had all moved there. He loved to garden & had been a farmer for years. He was a quite man, my Grandma said this was because he had lost 3 children, 2 to the hard North Dakota weather & 1 a son who had been born sickly.

The following is taken from the book Nelson County History:

Henry & Emma Stenson

Henry Stenson was born in Iowa & moved with his parents, Tollef & Guri Stenson to Nelson County in 1883 where they settled and farmed in Nesheim Township. His parents later built a home in McVille where they lived the rest of their lives. Henry married his wife, Emma, who was also born in Iowa on Nov. 8, 1905, and they farmed in the Nesheim Township. They moved to McVille and built a home on Main Street across the street from the old school house in 1915.

They ran a hotel in McVille for a few years. In 1943 they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where their daughters had moved earlier.

Mrs. Henry Stenson was a charter member of the McVille Lutheran Ladies Aid; Henry owned one of the first cars in McVille, an Overland with side curtains.
