Mrs. Ellen E. Wheeler, widow of William E. Wheeler, died at l2:10 Friday noon at the residence of her son, Charles B. Wheeler, 517 North Water street. Her death was due to old age and heart trouble. Mrs. Wheeler was one of the last of the early settlers of Decatur. Born in Sangamon county Feb. 14, 1828, she came to Decatur the same year and has lived in the county ever since. She would have been 80 years old next February. Most of her life was spent In Hickory Point township She remembered her parents saying that there was only one store In Decatur when they came here. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ, having joined the old church when she was a little girl. Mrs. Wheeler was the mother of ten children, only two of whom are living. They are Charles E. Wheeler of Decatur and Mrs. Jen Mettlen? of Lucas, Kan. Mrs. Mettlen spent the summer with her mother, returning home about a month ago. Mrs. Wheeler also leaves
ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, a brother, John Frazee of Decatur, and two sisters, Mrs. Blake of Iowa and Mrs. Sandham of Spokane, Wash. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from Boiling Springs church. The cortege will leave the residence at 1 o'clock. The interment will be in Boiling Springs cemetery.
