Peoria, IL - Joseph A. Brusich, 95, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Peoria, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.

He was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Canton, Ill., to Joseph and Pauline Tometich Brusich. He married Marvell E. Schutz on July 28, 1945, in Peoria, Ill.

He served in the Army during World War II in the Headquarters Battery of the 184th AAA Gun Battalion. During his four and a half years of service he fought in ground combat in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, where he was awarded numerous decorations including the American Defense Service Ribbon and European, African and Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, with one Silver and one Bronze Battle Star.

Joseph worked for Central Illinois Light Company as a supervisor, retiring after 31 years of service.

He and his wife moved to Birmingham in 1994 and attended St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Marvell E. Schutz; parents, Joseph and Pauline Brusich; brother, Tony Brusich of Illinois; and sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of Illinois, Josephine Schmitt of Illinois and Anna Cutt of Illinois.

He is survived by a daughter, Dixie Rohn (Richard); grandchildren, Christopher Rohn (Karin) and Jared Rohn (Stacie); and great-grandchildren, Parker, Caroline, Peyton and Emily Rohn.
