East Peoria, IL - Josephine Schmitt, 100, of Clifton, Ill., and formerly of Crescent City, Ill., formerly of East Peoria, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Merkle-Knipprath Countryside in Clifton.

She was born March 18, 1907, in Cuba, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Pauline Tometich Brusich. Josephine married Frederick Schmitt on Nov. 15, 1927, in East Peoria, Ill. He passed away Jan. 4, 1973.

Mrs. Schmitt was a nurse's aide at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, Ill., for 11 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crescent City, Ill., where she was also a member of the CCW. Mrs. Schmitt was a member of the Grandmother's Club and enjoyed crafts, needlework, reading and playing games.

Surviving Mrs. Schmitt are her son and daughter-in-law, William and Shirley Schmitt of Beecher, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and George Bolles of Magalia, Calif.; brother, Joseph Brusich of Alabama; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Schmitt was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; two sisters; one son, James Schmitt; and four daughters, Janet Hartke, Judith Hepler, Mary Lou Spain and Shirley Lavoie.

Burial will be in the Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
