Rites Held Sun. for Charles C. Meacham

Funeral services for Charles C. Meacham, prominent farmer, rancher and businessman and long-time Hall County resident, were held here Sunday at 3 p.m. in the First Methodist Church. Rev. Lloyd Hamilton, minister, officiated.

Mr. Meacham, 57, was found dead Saturday afternoon by his wife at the family home. Death was caused by a gunshot wound through the right temple. A .21 caliber repeating rifle lay near the body.

A native of Franklin, Tex., Mr. Meacham was born June 4, 1895, and came to this county in 1905. He was married to Miss Mabel Gosden at Lakeview, March 31, 1922.

After returning from the first World War, he engaged in the drug business in Lakeview for about four years.

In 1924, he and his family moved to Memphis and he operated a car and truck agency for several years before re-entering the drug business. He retired in 1946 and turned his attention to his farming and ranching interests.

He owned extensive land holdings at the time of his death. He had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Meacham was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Order. He was a charter member of Khiva Temple of Amarillo and the Memphis American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mabel Meacham; two daughters, Mrs. Dick Shelton and Mrs. T.A. Hunt, both of Memphis; his mother, Mrs. Georgia Meacham, Turkey; three brothers, J.W., J.L. and Paul Meacham, all of Turkey; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were B.E. Davenport, E.E. Cudd, Tomie Potts, Mac Tarver, John Fowler, T.B. Rogers, L.W. Stanford and Gene Corley.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, under direction of Murphy-Spicer Funeral Home.
