Funeral services for Mrs. Anita Meacham Shelton, age 70, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 1995 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Tamplen, Pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Shelton Family Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.
Mrs. Shelton died at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 1995 at Medical Center Nursing Home in Clarendon following a short illness. She was born January 19, 1925 [sic] at Memphis and had been a resident of Donley County most of her life. She married Dayton Carl "Dick" Shelton on August 30, 1940 at Clarendon and he preceded her in death on April 20, 1992. She was a long-time member of the Pathfinder Club and the Clarendon Order Of The Eastern Star. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Meacham Shelton on October 22, 1987.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherol Johnston of Amarillo; one son, Ferol Shelton of Clarendon; her mother, Mabel Meacham of Memphis; one sister, Dianne Antone of Rupert, Idaho; one niece, Paulette Kidd of Clarendon; and four grandchildren, Christine Johnston of Amarillo, Ty Shelton of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amy Hall of Austin, and Julie Shelton of Austin.
Casket bearers were Jack Lamberson, Dude Cornell, Ken Shelton, Stan Shelton, Ronnie Hall, and Ernie Johnston.
The family requests that memorials be to the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon or to the Saints Roost Museum.
