Shortly after being born, her family joined her grandparents in Mansfield Ohio. By 1910, they had moved to Dayton Ohio where she eventually met her first husband, Otto Finkbohner. They married 21 May 1918 in Alabama as he was preparing to ship out to serve in France during WWI. After the war, Otto Finkbohner was in training camp for return to civilian life in Chilicothe Ohio, where they met the McClain family. These families remained friends for years to follow. Their first two children were born in Dayton (1920 and 1922).

In 1923, they moved to join Otto Finkbohner's father and brother in Tusten, Sullivan County, New York, where they had three identical houses built in a row outside the town of Narrowsburg. They lived in rural New York through the depression and moved back to Dayton Ohio sometime around 1940. They had a total of seven children.

Her first husband died at the age of 52 of heart failure on 2 Nov 1945, leaving her a widow after 27 years of marriage. One year after his death (15 Nov 1946), she married her second husband, Aaron George Reed. He had been a good friend of her older brother when she was growing up (see picture on his memorial page) and he was single after obtaining a divorce from his first wife in January 1938. They remained happily married for 27 more years in Dayton Ohio until her death on 6 January 1973. He lived another 18 years to the age of 96.
