SHAFFER, Esther V. Age 89 of New Carlisle, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Born September 22, 1926, to a loving family in Narrowsburg, New York, she was one of seven children. Her oldest brother, John, passed away while playing in their home at the age of 14. Soon after, her family moved to New York City where her dad worked at the American Hotel and they lived on 42nd Street, in the heart of Times Square. In the early 1940's, her family relocated again to Dayton, Ohio. In 1950, she met the love of her life, Lloyd R. Shaffer and they were married on September 18, 1952; they were able to celebrate their 60th anniversary several months before his passing on February 2, 2013. She is also preceded in death by her parents Otto & Florence (Cameron) Finkbohner; her brothers John Finkbohner, Edward Finkbohner and Louis Finkbohner; her sister Julia (Finkbohner) Rettig and her beloved daughter Connie Lee (Shaffer) Garlough. She is survived by her sister Anna (Finkbohner) Wood; her son Loyd "Bob" Shaffer and his wife Charmaine; her granddaughter Ashley Marie Shaffer; her one and only great-granddaughter Elizabeth Marie Blum; along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 10AM Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - BELMONT CHAPEL, 648 Watervilet Ave, Dayton, with internment to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Tipp City.
