SMITH - Clara Sloan, born October 14th, 1889 at Manti, Utah, U.S.A. Passed away on September 23rd, 1979 at Cardston, Alberta, beloved wife of the late William Charles Smith Jr. Mrs. Smith was the last living descendant of the Sloan pioneer family that came to Canada. She lived most of her days on the farm at Hill Spring, Alberta. She was present when the Hill Spring Ward was organized. Clara was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many auxiliaries. She was the director for many years for the Hill Spring area Red Cross. She is survived by ten children: Hugh C. Smith of Orem, Utah; Mrs. Ellen S. Bunting of Bakersfield, California; Harold R. Smith of Liberty, Mississippi; William Paul Smith of Tarzana, California; Richard W. Smith of Hill Spring; Margaret S. Woolford of Cardston; John T. Smith of Raymond; A. Keith Smith of Cody, Wyoming; and Ruth S. Gifford of Los Angeles, California. 34 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and an infant son, Wallace. Funeral services will be held in the Cardston Alberta Stake Chapel on Wednesday, September 26th at 1:00p.m. Friends may meet the family and pay their respects from 12 noon prior to the service in the Relief Socity Room of the Church. Interment will follow in the Hill Spring Cemetery. Salmon Funeral Home, Cardston, Directors of the Funeral Service.
