Rev. Harry C. Tyson of West Chester

Rev. Harry C. Tyson, 83, of West Chester, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2004, at St. Martha Manor, in Downingtown.

He was the husband of the late Evalyn Heyburn Tyson.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Harry E. Tyson and the late Bertha O'Keefe Tyson.

Rev. Tyson was an Ordained American Baptist Minister, of Chapel Road Baptist Church in the Village of Doe Run, Coatesville, since 1981 until his death.

He attended Clementon School in Clementon, N.J.; Olney High School; 1939 graduate of Mastbaum Technical High School; attended Penn State Delaware County Campus; and was a 1985 graduate of Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Christian Ministry, in Philadelphia.

He was a 1st Sergeant in the United States Army, serving in World War II.

He was a former employee of Philco Radio Corporation, of Philadelphia; former employee of Sun Oil Co., of Marcus Hook; a former partner of Pocopson Mill, of Pocopson Township; former employee of Landsdowne Steel and Iron; former employee of Wind Turbine Co., of West Chester; and a former real estate salesman for John V. Dalton Real Estate, of West Chester.

He was licensed at Brandywine Baptist Church of Chadds Ford, in 1967, West Chester Baptist Church, in 1969, and American Baptist Convention, in 1971.

He was ordained at West Chester Baptist Church, in 1974.

From 1976 to 1988, he was Chaplain of Sleighton School of Lima. He also served churches in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.

Rev. Tyson was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 322, of West Chester; Howell Royal Arch Chapter No. 202; Sir Knight of St. Alban; Rajah Temple of Reading, 32nd Degree; Brandywine Shrine Club, of Rajah Temple; Chester County Club of Reading Consistory 32nd; Anchient Accepted Scottish Rite, of Reading; American Legion Post No. 65, of Lansdowne; Minister's Council of American Baptist Churches; and AARP.

He enjoyed wood working and golf.

Rev. Tyson is survived by two daughters, Mary S. Tyson, with whom he lived, and Mildred T. Collins, of East Coventry; one brother, William A. Tyson, of Ottsville; two granddaughters, Abigail C. Turley, of East Coventry, and Rachel B. Collins, of Port Orange, Fla.; and one great grandson, Samuel B. Turley, of East Coventry.

He was preceded in death by a brother, H. Earl Tyson Jr.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 19, at Chapel Road Baptist Church, 15 Chapel Road, Village of Doe Run, Coatesville, where friends may call from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, at the DellaVecchia, Reilly & Smith Funeral Home Inc., 410 North Church Street, West Chester.

A Masonic Service will be at 8 p.m.

Interment will be in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Chapel Road Baptist Church, 15 Chapel Road, Village of Doe Run, Coatesville, PA 19320.
