Survivors also include his sister; paternal grandparents, Charles J. "Charlie" Abernathy, Sr. (1891–1965) and Quinnie Seal Abernathy (1894–1945); and maternal grandmother, Ila Isabel Caskey Dodd Edwards (1907–1969).
Predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Alexander Charles Dodd (1901–1943).
Funeral Services were held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 4, 1951, at Canaan Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. W. Y. Henderson; interment in the Church Cemetery.
