NEWPORT — Kenneth L. Palmer, 66, died unexpectedly Saturday at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born, July 28, 1923, in Unity, son of Manley Palmer Sr. and Edith (Stuart) Palmer. He was a graduate of Unity High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

For many years, he was employed as a Mechanic for Harold Branscomb. From 1966 until 1988 he worked for Banton Brothers, Inc. in maintenance. For the past two years, he worked part time for Doug's Auto in Plymouth.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gail (Whitley) Palmer of Newport; his step-mother, Hazel Palmer of Newport; three brothers, Carl Palmer of Palmyra, Lloyd Palmer of Columbus, Ohio, Vern Palmer of Newport, five sisters, Janice Sheldon of Palmyra, Theo Violette of Clinton, Evelyn Stafford of Dexter, Marvis Huntington of Detroit; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
