Memorial services for Jane Cozzens, 69, of Roswell, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Central Church of the Nazarene, 901 E. Country Club Road, with the Rev. Garth Hyde officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held at Capitan Cemetery.

Jane was born Aug. 18, 1940, in Carrizozo to Seymour McKinley (Primo) Cozzens and Sallie Jane Goode. Jane taught school in various places in New Mexico, and retired from Alamogordo Public Schools due to poor health in the early 1990s after teaching 26 years. She was very instrumental in the early start of Jump Rope for Heart with Alamogordo students ranking in the top tier across New Mexico. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching elementary school physical education children the basic skills they needed for a lifetime of activity. She was an accomplished cardmaker and scrapbooker. Jane spent many enjoyable hours in these activities in her retirement years. All of her family and friends were honored to receive one of her handmade cards.

She loved her family dearly and was the guiding force in organizing and keeping our family reunions going.

Jane is survived by three brothers, L.C., of Capitan, Doyle, of Roswell, and Ken, of San Marcos, Calif.; two sisters, Cornelia Grannis, of Monrovia, Calif., and Marilyn Cozzens, of Roswell; five nephews, Dr. Bob Parsons, and his wife, Patricia, of Dexter, Gary Cozzens, and his wife, Shirley, of Capitan, Dr. Mike Cozzens, and his wife, Lisa, of Brea, Calif., Tom Grannis, of Monrovia, and Rob Cozzens, of Santee, Calif.; 16 nieces, Dr. Sally Parsons, of Greeley, Colo., Janet Thorson, and her husband, Kurt, of Albuquerque, Debbie Harrelson, and her husband, Colt, of Ruidoso, Diane Parsons, of Roswell, Barbara Rogers, of Monrovia, Tek Grannis, of Monrovia, Peggy Winchester, and her husband, Larry, of Casa Grande, Ariz., Carolann Meekins, and her husband, Dan, of Albuquerque, Gail Scott, and her husband, Dickie, of Olney, Texas, Grace Moore, and her husband, Mike, of Albuquerque, Glenda Sears, and her husband, Jeff, of Flower Mound, Texas, Sally White, and her husband, Ken, of Glendora, Calif., Linda Schultz, and her husband, Jeff of Roswell, Christy Mages, and her husband, Chris, of Perris, Calif., Cindy Ross, of Santee, and Jenni Bruce-Miller, and her husband, Richard, of Lake Elsinore, Calif; and 36 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Perry Wayne, and one sister. Eileen Cozzens Parsons.
