Mrs. Vivian Roberts Archambault, 71, passed away Wednesday morning Oct. 5, at a Tulsa hospital after a lengthy illness and funeral services were held here Friday afternoon.

Born Nov. 20, 1905 in Pawnee to Skidi (Skedee or Wolf) band of the Pawnee tribe, Rush Roberts, sr. and Rose Howell Roberts, she attended schools in Pawnee and was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. Her first teaching assignment with the Bureau of Indian affairs was as a teacher at Wheelock Academy at Millerton in 1927.

Although she lived in Pawnee much of her life, she had lived and worked in various locations. She married Walter Archambault on April 8, 1939 in Holbrook, Ariz. And they lived in the west and later in the Cherokee country on the east coast. He died in April of 1959 and she moved back to Pawnee from Cherry Point, N.C. that year.

She taught at Chilocco Indian school for some time, retiring from the Indian service with that job. In 1972 she received a Commendable Service Award from the Interior Dept.

Mrs. Archambault was an active member of the Indian Baptist church and had served as Treasurer of the church for some time until her illness forced her retirement from the job. She was a member of the Service club, the NATWA club and was active in tribal affairs.

Survivors include her daughter, Wynema Mathews of Tahlequah; a sister and brother: Lena Tafoya of Pawnee and George Roberts, sr. of Oklahoma City, plus 2 granddaughters: Sallena and Vera Mathews.

Services were held at the Poteet Funeral chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct 14, with the Rev. Paul Samuels, minister of the Pawnee Indian Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Highland cemetery under directions of the Poteet Funeral Home.
