Virginia Doris Woods Coody, age 80, of Eastman, Georgia, died Thursday, November 12, 2009 in the Dodge County Hospital. Funeral Services will be held in the First United Methodist Church of Hawkinsville at 3 P.M., Sunday, November 15, 2009 with Dr. Marcus Tripp and Rev. John Walker officiating. Oldest grandson, Andrew Coody, will also be delivering remarks during the service. Grandsons Andrew Coody, Bruce Coody, Asa Coody, Adam Childers, Benjamin Childers, and Taylor Childers will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in the Coody Cemetery in Dodge County. Mrs Coody was a native of Pulaski County, and a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a long-time member of the Lucille Adams Sunday School Class, and was on the Hospitality Committee. Doris taught Sunday School for many years as well as teaching the Children's Choir. She was a former member of the Church Council and former Chairperson of the Parsonage Committee. She was very committed to her church. Doris was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 22 years. Doris attended Georgia Teacher's College in Statesboro in 1945. In 1950, she married Charles Robert Coody. Before starting her family, she worked for BC Moore's Department Store of Hawkinsville. Doris and Robert were ardent travelers. She loved reading, cooking, and most of all, raising and supporting her children and twelve grandchildren. Doris was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother and friend. Mrs. Coody was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Edward and Jewel Exie Woods and brother, George Piney Woods, Left to cherish her memory is her husband Charles Robert Coody of Eastman: sons, Thomas Randolph Coody (Joni) of Hawkinsville, and Bruce Forehand Coody (Susan) of Houston, Texas; daughter, Dinah Coody Childers or Perry; brother Thomas Edward Woods, Jr. (Kay) of Pineview; sisters-in-law, Corrine Coody Bolin of Americus and Margaret Hurst Coody of Vienna; grandchildren, Robert Andrew Coody, Harris Brinson Coody, Asa Randolph Coody, Adam Michael Childers, Benjamin Thomas Childers, Colby Taylor Chiders, Maggie Coody Griffin (David), Abbye Leigh Coody, Claire Virginia Childers, Megan Skye Coody, Ryan Austin Coody and Chase Robert Coody.
