Walter A. Zilka, 78, Gladwin Township clerk, died suddenly Monday, Dec. 25, at his home at 1549 Nickless Rd., Gladwin. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 5, 1900, he came to Gladwin County in 1905. Mr. Zilka moved to Lansing in the 1920's and returned to his farm in Gladwin Township in 1945.
Mr. Zilka was a member of the Gladwin County Farm Bureau and Our Savior Lutheran Church. He had served as clerk of Gladwin Township for 24 years. He and the former Mable Wirth were married in 1935 in Lansing.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Russell of St. Louis, Mo.; 2 sisters, Helen Wagner of Lansing and Lillian Brandt of Cleveland, Ohio; and one grandchild. Two sons preceded him in death, Walter Jr. in 1940 and Lynwood in 1948.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. from Our Savior Lutheran Church. The Rev. Herbert Biermann will officiate and burial will be in the Highland Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Mathews Funeral Home. Gladwin County Record dated 12-27/1978 Column - 4 Page - 2
