Lowell Carlson, 75, Lexington, died at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 12, 2010) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Lowell was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Ellsworth, the son of Albert M. and Fenella M. Roberts Carlson. He married Leila M. Rhoda-Grimes on Feb. 10, 1968, in Lexington. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa (Henry) Scheltens, Normal; two sons, William A. (Tina) Grimes and Robert A. (Lorene) Grimes, both of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Bryan Grimes, Calli (Ben) Rollins, Megan (Michael) Cooper, Matthew Grimes; and Samuel, Arianna and Abigail Scheltens; two brothers, Lyle (Alice Jane) Carlson, LeRoy, and Darrel (Joan) Carlson, Normal; and two sisters, Barbara Ann (Charley) Cooper, St. Ann, Mo., and Alice May Carlson, Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Carlson.
Lowell was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lexington, and the Ellsworth American Legion. He had worked in agribusiness all his life.
He was an avid Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball fan, an NCHS softball fan and an avid supporter of his grandkids' sports.
His passion was his yard, flowers and gardening. He enjoyed mowing his yard and growing gladiolas, dahlias and potatoes.
