Christopher "Christy" Hinkle and Sarah Keyser were married about 1798 in Pennsylvania. Christopher then purchased 54 acres, in what was then Jefferson County in the Ohio Territory, and began clearing the land they would homestead. In 1801 Belmont County was formed from Jefferson and Washington counties with the Hinkles and their first two children being among the new county's earliest residents.

Christopher was a miller, as well as a farmer, and served during the War of 1812. The family were a lifelong members of the Reformed Presbyterian Church on Rt. 214. (High Ridge United Presbyterian Church) and when that congregation dissolved, many of today's descendants became faithful members of the United Presbyterian Church of St. Clairsville.

Christopher and Sarah were the parents of nine children.

Researchers please note: DNA has proven this Christopher Hinkle is not descended from the Rev Anthony Jacob Henckel. If anyone has information on Christopher's parents, please contact me.
