Truman Allen Cook was the eighth child of Robert Kates Cook (1874-1946) and Bertha May Ellison (1887-1982.

His paternal grandparents were Thomas Christopher Cook and Arabelle Austin. His maternal grandparents were Matthew Greenlee Ellison and Effie Blanche Lauderdale, d/o James S. Lauderdale and Elizabeth Henson who was the d/o Capt. Joseph T. Henson.

Truman was killed one afternoon at the age of 12 by a hit-and-run drunk driver as he and a friend were taking scrap metal on foot to a drop off station. Apparently the woman was never prosicuted for the crime.
