Janet E. Funk of Downingtown

Janet Eileen Jago Funk, 69, went to be with Christ on Sunday, June 29, 2008, after her battle with cancer.

Jan was born on April 3, 1939, in Ambler, daughter of William and Ethel Jago.

She was a 1956 graduate of Upper Dublin High School and the Chester County School of Nursing, her greatest accomplishment. She was also a graduate of Outward Bound, North Carolina, which was her greatest challenge.

In her life she was not only a wonderful wife and mother but a lifelong friend to many, artist, nurse, business owner, missionary, giver and lover of life and fun.

She painted the mural of the Pyle Farm hanging in the Brandywine Hospital and was an ARC Christmas card artist.

She began Jan's Cans, which has inspired the donation of thousands of gift-wrapped coffee cans filled with personal items and distributed through the Salvation Army, where she has also served dinners.

Jan traveled to Russia, India, Peru and Europe for mission trips and was seen frequently at Christian Aide Mission or the Josh McDowell Warehouse. She was the inspiration for the Oma Foundation that is being created to encourage kids, youth and parents to develop spiritually and as leaders, and to create giving and serving projects to help those in need.

Serving her Savior was her greatest honor.

She was the wife of Robert E. Funk for 39 years and mother of Diane Runge, Wendy Bergeron, Denise Greenhalgh, Steven Funk; and spouses, Scott Runge and Jennifer Mathis Funk. Her grandchildren, Lisa Brown, Taylor Runge, Cierra Runge, Madison Runge and Margo Funk, will love and miss her greatly. She leaves her sister, Mildred Ryan of Florida; and nephew, Ralphie Jago of Louisiana; and their spouses and children.

She is mourned by her lifelong Ambler friends as well as her Penn Avenue and church friends. Her family and friends were her greatest love.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at Hopewell United Methodist Church, Hopewell Road, Downingtown.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m., memorial service at 11 a.m. and interment following in Hopewell United Methodist Church cemetery.

Jan asked that in lieu of flowers, she be honored with contributions given to the Oma Foundation, c/o Diane Runge, 223 Faggs Manor Road, Cochranville, PA 19330.

Arrrangements are being handled by the James J. Terry Funeral Home.
