While Mary was growing up, her parents would take the family to Fish Lake each summer to work their dairy herd. She would help make butter and cheese to sell.
She was active in the Mormon Church. She played the guitar and sang with a beautiful voice. She was asked to perform at many local events. She also wrote songs.
She met her future husband in Emery after her family moved there. She and Archie were married when she was sixteen. They lived in Emery, Utah and had nine children.
