Sarah Marvin, dau. of Matthew and Elizabeth Marvin, bapt. Dec. 27, 1631 at St Mary's Chh., Great Bentley, Essex, England. On Apr. 15, 1635 Sarah, recorded as "aged" 3, along with her parents and four siblings were registered at London, England for passage to New England aboard the Increase, Robert Lea, Master, and likely arrived in New England by late Spring or early summer of 1635.

Sarah m. 1) Oct. 4, 1648 of record at Hartford, Conn., William Goodrich [1], bapt. Feb. 13, 1621/2 at St. Mary's, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England. He d. intestate at Wethersfield, Conn. before Nov. 14, 1676, the date of his estate inventory.

Sarah m. 2) Capt. William Curtis, who d. testate at Stratford, Conn. Dec. 21, 1702, Æ 84, by whom she had no children.

Sarah d. at Stratford, Conn. between Ocy. 7, 1697, the date of her will, and Jan. 7, 1701/2, when the witnesses including husband William Curtis were sworn before Joseph Curtis, Assistant. On Jan. 17, 1701/2 Sarah's will was proved at court in Fairfield, Conn. with sons John and Ephraim Goodrich and Abraham Kimberley appointed administrators of her estate and instructed to provide an inventory as soon as convenient. However, no inventory is of record in either the Fairfield or Hartford probate districts.

Sarah's death is not recorded at Stratford and may have died late in the year 1701. While Sarah has no known gravestone marking the place of her interment, it traditionally has been suspected she may have been interred in Stratford's Old Congregational Churchyard. However, as she had no children with her 2nd husband, she may well have been interred with her children in Wethersfield, Conn. where only three pre-1700 readable gravestones existed in 1899.

Sarah and first husband William Goodrich had the following children of record at Wethersfield, Conn.:

• i. William Goodrich, twin, b. Apr. 8, 1649; d. in infancy.

• ii. Sarah Goodrich, twin, b. Apr. 8, 1649, d. in 1700 at Glastonbury, Conn.; m. Nov. 20, 1667 at Wethersfield, Sgt. John Hollister, s. of Lieut. John Hollister and Joanna Treat.

[1] Hartford VRs: Goodrich, William, m. Sara Maruen (i.e., Marvin), Oct. 4, 1648. [in this era, in old English handwriting the letter "u" represented the letter "v" and the letter "v" represented the letter "u".]

[2] Manwaring's Hartford Probate District abstract of Ens. William Goodrich's Nov. 14, 1676 dated inventory misstates the ages of the four sons John, William, Ephraim and David. The inventory was taken on a date in the old Julian calendar in which March 25th was the first day of the new year. On the reverse of the 2nd page of the inventory is the following with the [annotated] historical date of birth in the modern Gregorian calendar:
• "John Goodrich is 24 years old ye 20th day of May next. [b. 20 May 1653]
• William Goodrich is 17 years old ye 8th day of Feb'y next. [b. 8 Feb. 1659/60]
• Ephraim Goodrich is 14 years old ye 2d day of June next. [b. 2 June 1663]
• David Goodrich is 10 years old ye 4th day of March next." [b. 4 March 1666/7]

[3] The current Findagrave memorial for David, who died a Colonel of the Wethersfield militia, does not include a photo of what in 1899 Tillotson (Wethersfield Inscriptions) inventoried as his then standing gravestone:

"Here lies Interr'd
the Body of Colnl
David Goodrich, Esq.
who Departed this
Life Janry 23d
A.D. 1755. In the
88th year of his
Age."

The Conn. Society that erected the two existing military-related gravestones shown in David's memorial corrupted the symbol "Æ" for the Latin term "Ætatis suæ" to incorrectly mean a person's chronological age.
