Excerpts from pages 621 & 622 of the 1886 "History of the Susquehanna & Juniata Valleys" (Union twp)

Joseph Campbell, born March, 1776 and died August, 1857, son of Robert and Jane Campbell, in 1813 married Elizabeth, 2nd daughter of Hon. John Oliver, who came to Juniata Valley in 1769 or 1770, married Margaret Lyon, and had a family of 12 children - 4 sons and 8 daughters. Four of the Campbells - three brothers, John, Joseph and Samuel, and a cousin John - married four of the Oliver sisters - Rachel, Elizabeth, Nancy and Jane, respectively. From these unions all of the Campbells of this county and one family in Centre County are descended. Joseph Campbell Sr, lived during his life on the old homestead and followed the business of farming. His family consisted of
1) Isabella, born February 18, 1814, died December 9, 1863;
2) Margaret Jane, born November 19, 1815;
3) Joseph, born November 6, 1817;
4) Elizabeth Lyon, born January 13, 1820, died February 7, 1883;
5) Hugh McClelland, born November 27, 1821, died in Sacramento, Cal., May 11, 1850;
6) Andrew William, born November 6, 1823;
7) Robert Douglas, born October 30, 1826;
8) Mary Rachel, born August 26, 1830, died November 17, 1859.
