Drowns in Two Feet of Water at Manitowoc
Believed to have lost his way while west of the city limits of Manitowoc early Sunday morning, Philip Bratz, 71, a bachelor living at route 1, Kiel, drowned in two feet of water, the result of the recent rains, on Thirtieth street, between Franklin and Clark streets in Manitowoc. The body was discovered, face downward, by George Brixius of 810 S. Twenty-eighth street, in Manitowoc.Coroner Gerald Rau pronounced the death accidental and said there would be no inquest. Mr. Bratz, who had been living with his nephews, Herbert and Arthur Bratz, had been missing from his home for two or three days.
The nephews accompanied the body to Kiel, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. August Hammann will officiate and burial will be made in the church cemetery.Mr. Bratz was born on a farm in the town of Rhine on January 31, 1874, the son of Michael and Dorothea Bratz. He resided in the town of Eaton for sixty years. Survivors are five brothers, William of Texas, Frank of Schleswig, Otto of the Town of Eaton, Fred of Stanley, Wis., and Henry of Sheboygan. Two the funeral home from 3 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services.
