Well Known Local Woman Passes Away

DuBois lost another venerable resident over the week-end when Mrs. Mary Ellen Heitsenrether, nonogenarian and relict of the late John P. Heitsenrether, passed away at her home, 20 W. Weber avenue, following an illness extending over a period of hte past three weeks.
Death was due to the infirmities of old age, aggravated by shock resulting from the serious injury of her son, Luther B., of Pittsburgh, who was injured while visiting here in the latter part of August. Since that time Mrs. Heitsenrether has been in failing health and her condition had been such that but few hopes had been entertained for her recovery. She passed peacefully away Saturday evening at 6:30 o'clock.
The deceased was of kindly christian character, and was a devoted member of the First Methodist church for many years, continuing her active religious profession until ill health forced her to remain at home.
Mary Ellen Bennet Heitsenrether was born on a farm near Curwensville, March 25, 1848, where she spent her early years. On October 24, 1867, she was united in marriage to John P. Heitsenrether at Curwensville, the couple coming to DuBois in 1883. Mr. Heitsenrether served through a considerable portion of the Civil War in Co. 1, of the 84th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers.
The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1917 with a quiet family gathering attended by their four children. Mr. Heitsenrether passed away in 1919, leaving to mourn his death his beloved wife and family.
Mrs. Heitsenrether maintained her residence at the family home on W. Weber avenue and has been lovingly attended by her daughter Mrs. Cora Reed.
In addition to Mrs. Reed, other children who survive are: Mrs. A. D. Hutton, Clarksburg, W. Va., who has been here for the past several weeks; Luther B., Pittsburgh; Earle, Chicago.
As stated, Mrs. Heitsenrether was a faithful member of the M. E. church for many years, and was a loyal member of the Sunday school class conducted by Mrs. W. Trezise.
Funeral services will be held from the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with interment being made in the family plot in the Rumbarger cemetery.
