Son of George Thornton & Goldie Downing. He was the youngest of their 5 children. Robert married twice, first to Jacklyn Ritersdorf and second to Paula E. Johnson. Private Thornton served with the 378th Infantry, Company G. He honorably served his country during World War II. Sadly, just 32 days prior to the armistice that ended the war, he was killed in action in Germany.
