Son of John Loveday (1816-1891) & Lydia Hailes (1821-1896)
James married Lydia Kemp in 1862 in Forncett Saint Mary, Norfolk, England.
* thanks to Janedl for her email 16-1-2010: James married Lydia Kemp in 1842 in Bunwell Norfolk England. James & Lydia arrived in Hawkes Bay as assisted immigrants aboard the SCHIEHALLION on 26th May 1874, having left London on the 10th February 1874, with 7 children (their 9 month old infant Daniel died a month into the voyage). Also on board was Lydia's mother 49 year old Mary, Lydia's brothers Daniel, Edward and Elijah and sister Elizabeth (all single) and her brother Frederick, his wife Harriet and their 3 children, 6 year old Elijah, 4 year old Willie, 2 year old Harriet and a baby daughter born 27th March 1874. They all settled in Woodville as part of the original Woodville Farm Settlement.

Mr William Loveday this morning received a wire announcing the death of his father which occurred at Hamilton. The deceased was one of the first settlers in the Woodville district and left for Hamilton with his family about eight years ago.

He is buried with his wife Lydia and next to a possible brother, William Loveday (1844 - 1913)
