From Der Nord Westen, 08 Oct. 1903:
Death in Kiel last Thurs. of Mrs. Ruppenthal, one of the first settlers in that area, at age 69 of stomach cancer. She leaves 4 sons and 3 daughters.
The funeral was held on Sunday.

Last week Thursday, Mrs. Ernestine Ruppenthal died at her home following a long painful illness due to gastric disease. The deceased who has lived here for about 50 years and one of the oldest residents of Kiel, first was the light of the world in Germany on September 2, 1834 and had reached the age of 69 years and 29 days. Her husband died nine years ago.
She is survived by 7 children; namely, Mrs. Blank in Brillion, Mrs. A. Noll in Chilton, Mrs. G. Gerhard in Elkhart Lake, August in Brillion, Adolf in Cascade, Rudolph in Hilbert and Miss Louise in Kiel. One daughter, Mrs. Louis Henschel Jr. died 8 years ago.
The deceased is well respected and her death will be a great loss to all. The burial took place on Sunday afternoon with numerous mourners at the Kiel Cemetery, with Pastor Arpke from Chilton officiating.
