Suggested edit: Charles Luther Mathias, 85, a prominent Hardy County farmer, merchant and livestock dealer, died Friday afternoon at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

A son of the late Joseph and Susan Mongold Mathias. He was born July 10, 1877. He was a descendant of one of the early settlers of Mathias and spent his entire life in the community.

Mr. Mathias was a member of the Mathias Church of the Brethren.

On June 22, 1904, he married the former Clora Cleaver, who survives.

Also surviving are four sons, L.A. of Mathias, O.L. of Harrisonburg, and Dr. J.D. and O.S., both of Wardensville, W.Va., two daughters, Mrs. Ama Morgan and Miss. Audrie Mathias, both of Oak Ridge, Tenn., seven grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Genervia Snyder of Mathias.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mathias Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Bobby Phillips. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Winfred Fansler, Melvin Fitzwater, Ervin May, Frank Abbott, Raymond Bean, Arnold Strawderman, Daily Mongold and Frank Dispanet.
