Rita Elizabeth Wheeler, 97, Joplin, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010.

She was born April 9, 1912, in Elkins, Ark., to John and Alice (Harris) Reed.

Mrs. Wheeler moved to Granby from Joplin, in 1951.

She was a receptionist at Rita's and Charley's Restaurant in Granby, for many years. Prior to that, she worked in the Granby School System in food services for 10 1/2 years.

In 2002, she returned to Joplin, and resided at the Autumn Place.

Rita enjoyed being with people, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading her Bible.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wheeler in 1973.

She is survived by three children, Ronnie Wheeler and wife, Twilla, Webb City, Jerry Wheeler and wife, Kris, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Larry Wheeler, Granby; a stepson, Billy Earl Wheeler and wife Maxine, Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three nieces; and one nephew.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, Granby, with Rev. Fred Franks officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, north of Granby.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Wheeler, Jerry Wheeler, Larry Wheeler, Billy Earl Wheeler, Greg Wheeler, Jeff Wheeler and Dustin Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lewis Bamberl, Gerald Hendren, Vern Styron and Grover Akehurst.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Red Cross in care of Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 26, Granby, MO 64844.
