MR. ELIJAH M. GILES
One of Lanark Township’s oldest residents, Mr. Elijah M. Giles,
passed away at the G.W.M. Hospital, Perth, on April 25th, following an illness of nine months. Mr. Giles was born on July 25th. 1872, in Ramsay Township, a son of the late Mr. Enoch Giles and his wife, Margaret Manson. When just a young man, he settled on a farm on the ninth concession of Lanark township where he lived all the rest of his life. On January 19th, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Isabel Warren who survives with two sons, Warren on the homestead and Kenneth of Almonte. Other members of his family are three brothers, Will and Charles of Ramsay and James of Carleton Place; also three sisters, Mrs. Ida McCall, Mrs. Ethel McNeely and Miss Jessie Giles of Carleton Place. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased him, John of Drummond Centre and Herman of Ramsay; Ida and Elizabeth (Mrs. John F. Ramsbottom) Lanark. Largely attended, the funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from Alex. Blair & Son’s Funeral Home, Perth, to Elmwood cemetery. Rev. S. D, Holmes, Anglican rector, officiated at the services. The pallbearers were five nephews, Harold and Clarence Ramsbottom, Lloyd McCall, Wilbert and Calvin Giles and Harry Warren. Numerous floral tributes were received by the bereaved relatives.
