Nella Alice Gragert, 99, of Arkansas City, died Sunday (May 9, 2004) at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (May 12, 2004) at the Central Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. The Reverend Steve Chambers and the Reverend Harry Cunningham will officiate.

Nella was born August 24, 1904 in Rantoul, Kansas to George Norman and Nettie Leona (Bloomer) Gray. She was reared and educated in Salina and moved with her family to Fairmont, Oklahoma at age 13. Nella married Ernest R. Gragert on October 18, 1922 in Perry, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Nella was a homemaker and longtime member of the Central Christian Church. Nella was a life Deaconess of the Church, past president of 20th Century Class, former head of Weekday Religious School, was in charge of CCC funeral dinners and prayer chain for many years, and longtime Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Election Board and Precinct Committee Woman of the Republican Party.

Survivors include her daughters-in-law Beulah Gragert of Arkansas City and Beverly Gragert of California, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest, sons Verlyn, Wesley, and Max, and a brother.

A memorial has been established with the Central Christian Church Building Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
