Johanna was born in Ecksina (?) Prussia, the daughter of Wilhelmina Fraser and Christophe Altenberg. She immigrated to the US and married Julius Beyer in New York City. Their children were: Otto (Anna Colligan), Elsie (John Steinle), Charles and William (Nora Vail). She lived on West 49th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues in New York City. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church on West 46th Street.
