She was born in Adams, on July 1, 1917, daughter of Lawrence and Maria Wojciek Pikul. She attended Adams Schools.
Irene was last employed by North Adams State College for 20 years until her retirement in 1986.
She attended St. Francis of Assisi Church and St. John's Episcopal Church. Her love and focus in life was her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she was truly the heart of her family.
She was the widow of Angelo John Larese, who died on March 3, 1997. They were married on July 27, 1940.
Survivors include one son, John A. Larese, of North Adams, five grandchildren, Sandra Kolis , of Adams, Michelle Larese, of Syracuse, N.Y., Angela Hakkinen, and her husband, Travis of Adams; Amanda Stred, and her husband, Mark of Northbridge, Mass., and Timothy Larese, and Sue of Springhill, Fla. Three great -grandchildren, one sister, Gertrude Amuso, of Pittsfield, nieces and nephews.
A son, Louis L. Larese died in 1985. Four brothers and three sisters are deceased including Elizabeth Sharkey, Pauline Doyle, Suzanne Gagnon, and Joseph, Stanley, Peter, and Frank Pikul.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Irene Larese will be Thursday Dec. 24, 2009 at 11 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter, 63 Downing Industrial Park, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
