According to the site of the Minnesota Historical Society, found at: https://www.mnhs.org/people/birthrecords/1903-12056
We find a reference to a birth of an unnamed child with a mother with the maiden name of Turner, which appears to be that of Max:

Birth Certificate Index: 1903-12056
Jaquis
Certificate Number: 1903-12056
Birth: December 22 1903
County of Birth: Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, United States
Subject: Birth records
Type: Text, Government Record, Historical Records
Details: Mother's Maiden Name: Turner

We point out that his death certificate states he was born on the 23rd of December, not the 22nd, and that he was born in Canby, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Additionally, prior information on his birth place was that he was born in South Dakota. We note that Lac qui Parle County is near the South Dakota border. (We have not obtained a copy of the birth record from Minnesota.)

Max's obituary appeared in the July 5, 1956 issue of the Parkersburg Eclipse, Parkersburg, Butler County, Iowa:
