Kiel—Special—Mrs. Minnie Mattes, 58, of 402 Fremont Street, died suddenly sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning. She was found dead in bed by her son, Woodrow, Sunday. The former Minnie Duecker, daughter of the late Henry W. and Eliza Stark Duecker, town New Holstein, she was born Jan. 10, 1884. In 1888 the family moved to Louis Corners. On July 10, 1906 she married Herman Mattes of Rockville. He died on Feb. 19, 1914. Since 1915 the family had lived here. For the past 18 months Mrs. Mattes operated a ladies' ready-to-wear shop, known as the M. & M. Shop, in partnership with her daughter, Mrs. Lester Meiselwitz.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Lester (Lillian) Meiselwitz, four sons, Lester, Henry and Philip of Kiel, and Woodrow of Sheboygan, and four grandchildren. Mrs. Mattes was a charter member of the ladies GUG Germania No. 7, and a member of the Kiel camp R. N., 2502, and the ladies' aid of Louis Corners.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, the Rev. Frank Zimmermann of the First Presbyterian church officiating with burial in Kiel cemetery.
