L.R. ‘Blackie' Witcher

SOMERVILLE — Services for L.R. "Blackie" Witcher, 87, of Somerville are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Somerville.
The Rev. Charles "Bud" Lovell will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
Mr. Witcher died Saturday in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
He was born in Rockdale and was raised and attended schools in Davilla. He worked in the oilfield in Breckenridge and worked on the construction of the Possum Kingdom Dam and Texoma Lake Dam for seven years. He moved to Houston in 1945 and worked for Iron Worker's Local No. 84 until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerville, where he was also a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma Dismukes Witcher; a daughter, Loyce McDonald Heine; and a stepdaughter, Bobbie Jean Humphries.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Lovell Witcher of Somerville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Clarence McDonald of Brenham and Virginia and Cliff Black of Carriere, Miss.; a stepson, the Rev. Charles Edward "Bud" Lovell; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Somerville.
