Herman B. Sims, age 83, of Gatesville, died Dec. 6 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steven Bogan officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Sims was born May 30, 1916, in Gatesville to the late Edgar and Pearl Boykin Sims. He lived in the Pearl Community and attended school in Pearl and Gatesville.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He married Bernice Bynum on June 29, 1947.
He served as Gatesville's chief of police for four years. He retired from the Fort Hood Fire Department in 1976 after 30 years of service. He also served as a deacon of Calvary Baptist Church for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Lee Moore; and two brothers, Arthur and Edgar Owen Sims.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Sims of Gatesville; a daughter, Kathy Crawford, and her husband, Joe, of Gatesville; a son, Bruce Sims of Gatesville; one sister, Thelma Gaston of Gatesville; one brother, Milford Sims of Fort Stockton; and one granddaughter, Courtney Crawford of Gatesville.
Pallbearers were Rodney Bond, Delvin King, Chris Platt, Paul Regino, Lesley West, and Bob Guthrie.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
