Mrs. C.E. (Freda) Shirey, Sr. of Gatesville died in a local hospital September 29. She was 88.
Services were held October 1 at Scott's Funeral Home with Dr. Jay Riley officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Shirey was born December 31,1903 in the Pidcoke community.
She was the daughter of the late J.W. and Amelia Coskrey. She was reared in the Hay Valley community and attended schools at Hay Valley and Gatesville.
On November 27, 1927, she married C.E. Shirey Sr. After their marriage they resided in Turnersville and Jonesboro until moving to Gatesville in 1958.
Mrs. Shirey was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church of Gatesville.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Freda Catherine Johnson of Midlothian, Mabel Lou Marchi of Temple, Claudine Rowe of Grand Prairie, and Hallie Worrell of Crowley; three sons, C.E. Shirey Jr. and Tom Shirey, both of Gatesville, and Charlie Shirey of Springerville, Arkansas; one sister, Mrs. Ed Davis of Gatesville; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
