Erik was the 2nd of 8 children born to Sigvart Erikson and Karoline Pedersdatter Lokken Vestby. He was the 2nd of 3 born in Norway. His mother was managing a guest house at Hanestad, and his father a shoemaker, during the railroad boom there in the 1870's.

The year prior to Erik's birth, his maternal aunt, Ingeborg (my g.g.grandmother) and her family emigrated from Norway to Dodge County, MN. Eriks' parents took him and his two siblings to the same county in 1881, leaving July 4. Erik was confirmed at South Zumbro Lutheran Church.

Erik married Clara Bremer, December 5, 1900 at his parents' home in Kasson. Erik learned his father's shoe maker trade; and also established the local hardware store in Kasson. Erik's father, Sigvart Erikson, wrote home to Norway a letter to his niece, Anne, a letter about Erik's and Clara's wedding, very touching. Happy to share if family is interested. Erik and Clara had two children: Evelyn and Chester.

The 1920 Census captures Erik, Clara and her nephew - son of her sister who died in 1921 - living together:

Household Role Sex Age Birthplace
Erick S Erickson Head Male 61 Norway
Clara A Erickson Wife Female 59 Minnesota
Earl A Cooley Nephew Male 20 Minnesota

Erik was my g.grandmother Barbara Eidem Sanvik's first cousin. Erik and Barbara were born in Norway and came to Dodge County, MN as small children with their parents and siblings, and stayed the rest of their lives.
