Karoline Pedersdatter Lokken (as spelled in Norway) was the 2nd of seven children born to Berte Sjoliestrandseie and Peder Olson Lokken, in Rendalen, Norway.

Norwegian tradition in the Rendalen area at that time, was the oldest daughters often took work outside the home from the age of 15 or so. Karoline did, and she quickly moved up to supervisor of a guest house at Hanestad, where Norway was adding tracks and opening a railroad station.
There, she met Sigvart Erikson Vestby (as spelled in Norway), a shoemaker from close to Oslo. They had three children prior to emigrating to Minnesota in 1881, where Karoline's sister, my g.g.grandmother, Ingeborg Eidem and family were already living. Either at the same time or very close, two of their brothers, Nils Pederson and Peder Pederson also emigrated to Dodge County, MN.

Karoline and Sigvart had 5 more children in Minnesota. Sigvart owned the Erikson Shoe Store in Kasson, MN and was known for miles around for many decades, as the best shoemaker one could find.

Karoline suffered from thyroid, in a day medicine was not so well known for the disease. She died in 1907 and is buried, along with other family members, at Maplewood Cemetery in Kasson, MN.
