Born on the summer solstice in June 1829, Margaret was the third child of Thomas Lawford and Margaret Cameron. The Lawford family farmhouse was on the West half of Lot 4 in Concession 3 of Beckwith Township, Lanark County.
At 21, Margaret married Robert Day on 27 Feb 1851 at Beckwith Twp. Robert was born about 1825 in Ireland. By 1861 they lived in Drummond Township along the 2nd Concession Road (now County Road 10), about 3 km from her parent's farmhouse.

Margaret was widowed in Aug 1890 and went to live with her daughter Susanna Poole in Montague Twp. Margaret passed away at nearby Smiths Falls in 1902 and was buried in McVean cemetery with her husband.
