Elsie Housman
Elsie Frances Housman, 95, of Sperry, died at 12:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis.
Born March 12, 1914, in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of John and Emma Vandermark Green. On April 11, 1936, she married Howard G. Housman in Burlington. He died April 25, 1994.
Mrs. Housman farmed in Sperry with her husband. She graduated from Yarmouth High School. She was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church, the Women's Society at church and Willing Workers.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Elaine Fell of Orange, Calif.; one son, David Housman of Moulton; and two great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel in Burlington.
The funeral for Mrs. Housman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sperry United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating. Lunch will follow at the church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
A memorial has been established for Sperry United Methodist Church.
