Charles Samuel Baker, age 87, of Bakersville, NC, passed away July 3, 2003, at Spruce Pine Community Hospital.

A native of Mitchell County, NC he was the son of the late George and Eleanor Teague Baker.

He was a veteran of the US Army where he served with Signal Corps in Iceland.

Mr. Baker enjoyed farming and working on on Baker family history. Mr Baker was the Great Great Grandson of David Baker which was the first settler in Bakersville, NC, and for whom Bakersville, NC was named. Mr Baker was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church, and a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College, in Boone, NC.

Survivors include; Sisters - Mary Morgan, of Bakersville, NC, Lucille Kirby, of King, NC, and Louise Ferguson, of Bakersville, NC, Several Nieces and Nephews.

Interment will follow the service in Bakersville Memorial Cemetery.
