Alton Leroy Barton was born 2/19/26 to MT and Cora Barton in Richland, OK. Leroy married Hallie Inez Cherry on 12/17/49 and was married for 60 years. They had 4 children: James of Bethany; Karen and husband JD of Alba, TX; Brad and wife Lynn of Bethany; and Thomas of Bethany; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Leroy served in the Army, then returned home. He graduated from Bethany High School. Leroy was a rural milk hauler for awhile, and then went to work for Dolese Concrete Co., where he retired. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 12 since 1966. Leroy also served as a member of the color guard for the post. He served in various offices during that time. Leroy was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He served 34 years as a volunteer at OKC Veterans Medical Center. Leroy passed away on Sat. 12/26/09 at the VA in OKC, with his family at his side. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday 12/30/09 at the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Newalla, OK.
