Nobility, Duke of Carinthia. The oldest son of Konrad I. of Carinthia and Mathilde of Swabia. After the death of his father, he was passed over in the succession of the duchy by Adalbero of Eppenstein whom he defeated near Ulm in 1019. At the election of the new king in 1024, he was one of the candidates for the kingship but supported his cousin Konrad instead. After Adalberos deposal he received Carinthia and accompanied the king to Italy.
