The following obituary was published in the Rosenberg Herald on November 10, 1950:

"Gus Albrecht"

Twenty-four hours after he was hit by an automobile in front of the Post office in downtown Rosenberg, Gus Albrecht, 81-year-old Rosenberg man, died at Polly Ryon Memorial hospital in Richmond. Injuries he had received in the tragic accident Saturday evening at 6:40 o'clock brought death to the aged man.

According to Capt. R. Z. Cowart of the Rosenberg Police Department, who investigated the accident, Mr. Albrecht was hit by a car driven by Donald Ray Sparks, a 19-year-old Rosenberg youth who was traveling east. Traffic was heavy at the time and Mr. Albrecht was in the middle of Avenue G directly in front of the Post office when hit. Sparks told officers he did not see Mr. Albrecht until the car hit him.

Capt. Cowart stated that Sparks stopped immediately and rendered all possible aid, seeing that police and ambulances were called and stayed until police finished with their investigation. It was said that his actions cleared him of any criminal intent and that no charges were expected to be filed against him in the unavoidable accident.

Bobby Ray Davis of Thomsons and Billy Wilson of Rosenberg were in the car with Sparks.

Mr. Albrecht sustained a severe blow on his head and his knees were bruised where he hit the pavement. It was believed shock caused his death as he was never unconscious.

Funeral services were held at Foerster Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Ben Behrens officiating. Interment was in the W.O.W. Cemetery with his grandsons as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were R. L. Richter, George Roane, Ira Douglas, Arthur Janak, W. S. (Bill) Adkins, W. W. Sutherland and Louise Muegge, Sr.

Mr. Albrecht, a long-time resident of Rosenberg and Fort Bend County was born in Provinc, Pusen, Germany on August 18, 1869. He came to the United States on the SS Hannover in 1873. After growing to manhood in this country he was married to Miss Mary Helms of Brenham.

Mr. and Mrs. Albrecht were the parents of 10 children, one child dying in infancy. Survivors include his widow; three sons, L. D. Albrecht, Dan Albrecht and Otto Albrecht of Rosenberg; six daughters, Mrs. Ella Stelter of Brenham, Mrs. Emma Stelter of Brenham, Mrs. Alvina Stelter, Mrs. Hulda Kelm and Miss Malinda Albrecht, all of Rosenberg and Mrs. Gus Dreibrodt of San Marcos; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.* * *
